Emulex Announces Integration of Pilot 3 Controllers within Intel® S1200BT Server Platforms Supporting the Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1200 Family

Next-Generation Integrated Baseboard Management Controllers Deliver Cost-Effective Data Center Server Management

COSTA MESA, Calif., April 19, 2011 – Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced the general availability of the Pilot 3 integrated Baseboard Management Controllers (iBMC) and certification across Intel's new S1200BT server lineup supporting the Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1200 family. http://www.intel.com/products/server/processor/xeonE3/index.htm

The Pilot 3 iBMC, an integrated lights-out management controller, is ideal for server and storage manufacturers looking for a remote management solution to keep pace with enterprises' always-on, globally distributed environments. The new Intel® S1200BT server family is based on the Intel Sandy Bridge microarchitecture, and leverages the Intel C200 chipset. The Emulex Pilot 3 iBMC is the premier microcontroller embedded in new server designs, extending the triple-core architecture with enhancements geared at the new Intel processor, offering faster speeds, support for more ports, additional sensors and reduced power requirements.

"The Emulex Pilot 3 iBMC is a key ingredient of the power management and Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager features available on Intel Xeon processor E3-1200 family-based platforms," said Shaun Walsh, vice president of marketing, Emulex. "Emulex Pilot 3 enables the true “lights out” data center with industry-leading remote management that is required to support next-generation data centers and cloud computing deployments."

Emulex Pilot 3 offers a unique, high-performance, triple-core architecture that delivers embedded platform management while simultaneously providing remote Keyboard, Video and Mouse (KVM) console operation and high-speed remote storage support. Within a single ASIC, Emulex Pilot 3 iBMC simplifies the management of the remote server systems and appliances for both physical and virtual servers, thereby reducing operational costs. The Pilot 3 iBMC allows administrators to remotely boot physical and virtual servers from a variety of storage devices and remotely reboot a physical or virtual server following firmware, basic input/output system (BIOS) or operating system updates. In addition, the Emulex Pilot 3 iBMC auto-discovers system problems and increases availability by monitoring all internal sensors and instrumentation within the server, and delivering warnings of problems, whether they are firmware-related or hardware-related.

"Server management is a requirement for data centers of all sizes and even more critical for next-generation servers based on the Intel Xeon processor E3-1200 family," said David L. Brown, DCG Server Channel GM, Intel. "Emulex Pilot 3 offers not only the integration and performance, but the one-chip remote management infrastructure that provides ease-of-use and cost reduction with more efficiency and performance over traditional BMCs."

Emulex offers a Pilot3 iBMC hardware design kit and a complete platform management firmware solution including a software design kit and software application kit with evaluation cards to accelerate product development and time-to-market. Emulex Pilot 3 is also fully supported by the leading platform management firmware solutions from AMI and Avocent.
