Emulex iSCSI and Fibre Channel Connectivity Solutions Help Enable Data Center Consolidation, Virtualization and Operational Efficiency
Dell Teams with Emulex to Deliver Next-Generation, High-Performance FCoE and iSCSI Connectivity Solutions That Make Ethernet-Based Network Convergence Possible
COSTA MESA, Calif., May 17, 2010- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that its single-chip OneConnect™ Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) have been selected by Dell for 10Gb/s iSCSI1 and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) converged connectivity and are available across Dell PowerEdge™ rack and blade servers and for use with all Dell iSCSI and Fibre Channel storage solutions worldwide. Emulex OneConnect UCNAs support efficient enterprise by enabling consolidation of network and storage infrastructures without changing management domains, allowing customers to benefit from increased consolidation and reduced hardware costs, while maintaining management best practices.
"Dell and Emulex are working together to make Ethernet-based network convergence a reality with solutions that are easy to deploy, use and manage," said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development, Emulex. "The increased performance of 10Gb/s iSCSI over 1Gb/s iSCSI and the hardware offload support that Emulex's OneConnect iSCSI UCNAs offer allow end users to get the most out of their Dell iSCSI infrastructure, resulting in increased data center consolidation, virtualization and operational efficiency."
Consolidation onto a converged infrastructure simplifies deployment and significantly lowers cost in three ways. Based on Emulex's Convergonomics™ Cost Calculator, Emulex One Connect UCNAs can provide up to:
- 28% savings on switches, adapters and rack space;
- 42% savings on power and cooling; and
- 80% savings on cabling
"As a leader in the iSCSI market, Dell is working with Emulex to offer its customers the ability to move to the next level of performance and consolidation based on 10Gb/s network convergence with iSCSI and FCoE on a single network," said Sally Stevens, vice president, Product Group Platform Marketing, Dell Inc. "Emulex's OneConnect 10Gb/s Ethernet-based iSCSI and FCoE UCNAs optimize I/O choices and deployment in the data center."
Emulex's single-chip, high-performance OneConnect UCNA is the only server adapter with full hardware protocol offload support for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), iSCSI and FCoE; the world's fastest 10Gb/s Ethernet performance according to IT Brand Pulse™; and the ability to efficiently consolidate network and storage infrastructures without changing management domains. As part of the Emulex vEngine™ technology, hardware offload and acceleration reduces server overhead and increases the number of virtual machines that can run on virtualized servers.
In addition, Emulex OneConnect UCNAs and LightPulse® Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) utilize Emulex's OneCommand™ Manager for secure, virtualized, automated and centralized enterprise management for deployment, dynamic provisioning, asset management, virtual I/O services, connectivity management, security, and quality of service for virtualized and converged networking environments.
Emulex has a longstanding partnership with Dell. In addition to Emulex OneConnect iSCSI and FCoE UCNAs, Emulex LightPulse 4Gb/s and 8Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs are also available across all Dell PowerEdge rack and blade servers and for use with all Dell Fibre Channel storage solutions.
