Emulex is at the forefront of managing its impact on the environment, and has numerous active “Green” programs.
Through our Energywise initiative, Emulex has tracked its energy consumption and achieved a 6% reduction in energy consumption between 2010 and 2008, compared to a target of 2.5%
- Through our Green Computing and Virtual IT initiatives , we reduced energy use by 320,000 kwh annually in our Costa Mesa Data Center alone.
- We are focusing on our Engineering labs and initiating audits at our major sites to identify even more opportunities to reduce energy consumption.
Our Carbon Footprint Reduction initiatives have yielded a total CO2 reduction of 367 Metric Tons across 5 of its major sites in 2010 compared to 2008 when these initiatives began. Emulex reports our detailed CO2 emissions through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
Recycling Initiatives helped us to recycle 81.1% of our waste
- Recycling e-waste through a centralized, ISO 14001 certified recycler.
- Paper and Cardboard recycling
- Trash Hauling
- Fluorescent Light Bulbs
- Landscape irrigation at our Costa Mesa, California headquarters is 100% reclaimed water
Emulex also extends its environmental consciousness into its facilities
- Our 600kw “bi-fuel” Emergency Standby Generator can run on natural gas or diesel and emits 30% less nitrogen oxides and 50% less particulate matter than comparable diesel-only units.
- Installed 32,000 sq ft of ESD flooring in our Engineering Lab that was made from 50% recycled content, is 100% cradle-to-cradle recyclable and eligible for LEED Points
- Emulex uses “Green” Janitorial products that meet EPA specifications for post consumer waste.
Urban Runoff
- The Costa Mesa Headquarters site is constructed to capture local runoff water (from irrigation and rain) so it can by recycled by the local water agency as opposed to just flowing down local storm drains. This design assists in the protection and preservation of streams, ocean, shoreline/beaches, and reef ecosystems from pollutants. It also assists the local municipality in complying with Regional Water Quality Control Board regulations pertaining to urban runoff.
