VMPilot brings key capabilities to enterprise customers deploying Microsoft Virtual Server. Based on ANSI T11 standard N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) technology, VMPilot provides a Virtual HBA Port (VPort) connection to a Storage Area Network (SAN). Each VPort has a unique identity on the SAN that works just like a physical HBA port. This provides the benefits of SAN best practices and standard SAN management applications at the virtual machine (VM) level, fully enabling SAN storage for applications running on Microsoft Virtual Server.

VMPilot Version 1.1

VMPilot 1.1 provides an integrated SAN solution for Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007. Using VMPilot 1.1, storage administrators can create VPorts that are attached to LUNs with a virtual connection. Using Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), server administrators can then provision and manage VMs that use NPIV-enabled storage. This includes using VMM to easily migrate a VM to a different server without reconfiguring storage or copying files.

VMPilot Version 1.0

VMPilot 1.0 is a full management application that can be used independently of Virtual Machine Manager. Using a simple wizard, IT managers can quickly create VMs that are connected to the SAN with an NPIV-enabled VPort. Using a single VMPilot 1.0 command, VMs can be migrated to a different server without reconfiguring storage or copying files.
