Emulex Offers New Fibre Channel Network Express Module for Sun Blade 8000 Modular Systems

Network Express Module Provides Remote I/O Fibre Channel Expansion for Greater Scalability, Serviceability and Availability within Sun Blade Environments

COSTA MESA, Calif., February 6, 2007 - Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced the new 4Gb/s Fibre Channel (FC) 20-port Network Express Module (NEM) and 2-port ExpressModule™ (EM) host bus adapter for Sun's record-setting, high performance Sun Blade™ 8000 Modular System. These new Emulex modular SAN connectivity solutions provide 4Gb/s Fibre Channel host bus adapter functionality for the entire blade chassis external to the individual blade server.

The Emulex NEM and EM enable a high degree of flexibility, scalability and serviceability. The Emulex NEM and EM are external to each blade server, which reduces the impact of thermal and power requirements on the blade server. Additionally, new Fibre Channel ports can be installed, reconfigured and removed with zero downtime, allowing for enhanced flexibility, scalability and serviceability.

The Emulex NEM and the EM feature a state-of-the-art remote I/O architecture. This new design takes all the functionality typically delivered on a Fibre Channel HBA or Mezzanine card and houses it in a hot-pluggable I/O module. Up to 20 Emulex ExpressModule HBAs or four Network Express Modules can be installed in the Sun Blade 8000 Modular System chassis providing from two to 160 ports of Fibre Channel SAN connectivity. Available for use with the family of Sun server blades, the Emulex NEM and EM are compatible with Emulex standard HBAs, which are fully interoperable with Windows, Linux, Solaris and VMware platforms.
