Gateway Selects Emulex 4Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs for Enhanced SAN Connectivity
High-Performance HBAs Provide SAN Connectivity for New Gateway 4Gb/s Arrays
COSTA MESA, Calif., November 20, 2006 - Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that Gateway will sell and support Emulex 4Gb/s PCI Express Fibre Channel HBAs for enhanced storage area network (SAN) connectivity. The Emulex 4Gb/s PCI Express single- and dual-channel HBA models (LPe1150 and LPe11002, respectively) are now generally available from Gateway and implemented in the company's new 4Gb/s-enabled storage arrays.
"To meet the evolving needs of our business customers, we recently expanded our line of Fibre Channel storage solutions with the introduction of the E-842R, the first Gateway-branded 4Gb/s-enabled array," said Tim Diefenthaler, Gateway senior director, professional product management. "Gateway's E-842R SAN is housed in a rack-optimized storage enclosure and offers enterprise-class capacity, flexibility and reliability at an affordable price. We're excited to work with Emulex, a leader in Fibre Channel solutions, to deliver an easy-to-use and high-performance SAN connectivity solution."
The Emulex LPe1150 and LPe11002 are single- and dual-channel HBAs ideally suited for mixed operating system SAN environments within midsize businesses and the enterprise. Both HBAs deliver maximum performance and connectivity, and are backward-compatible to ensure seamless migration to 4Gb/s environments.
"Emulex and Gateway are enabling end users to cost-effectively implement Fibre Channel and deploy servers seamlessly into their existing SANs," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Emulex Corp. "Together, we possess the technology and capabilities to fulfill Gateway's clients' requirements for state-of-the-art Fibre Channel solutions that can seamlessly and cost-effectively scale from a 2Gb/s to 4Gb/s interface."
The Emulex family of 4Gb/s HBAs, featuring its industry-leading LightPulse Virtual HBA technology, are equipped with a robust suite of installation and management software. Emulex HBAnyware is designed for seamless HBA management across the SAN from a single console or remotely, and is coupled with AutoPilot Installer, a wizard-based technology that requires only a few mouse clicks to guide users through a single installation process for drivers and utilities. These unique capabilities reduce overall management costs and provide a simplified method for deploying Fibre Channel-based SANs.
