EMC Qualifies Emulex OneConnect 10Gb/s iSCSI and FCoE Adapters Across EMC Networked Storage Systems

Next-Generation, High-Performance 10Gb/s iSCSI and FCoE Connectivity Solutions from Emulex Now Available Through EMC Select

COSTA MESA, Calif., April 8, 2010 – Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that that its single-chip OneConnect™ Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) for 10Gb/s iSCSI and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity are now qualified by EMC for use in servers connected to storage area networks (SANs) across the EMC® Connectrix®, EMC CLARiiON®, EMC Celerra® and EMC Symmetrix® storage systems. Emulex OneConnect 10Gb/s iSCSI Adapters and 10Gb/s FCoE Converged Network Adapters, are available from EMC through EMC Select™, a program which helps customers easily acquire components that comprise an information infrastructure. The offerings enable customers to efficiently consolidate network and storage infrastructures without changing management domains.

“With this announcement, Emulex and EMC continue their long-standing history of delivering the latest storage connectivity solutions, enabling customers to benefit from improved performance and investment protection by extending the life of their current data center infrastructures,” said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development, Emulex. “In addition, this qualification marks the first 10Gb/s iSCSI connectivity solution available through EMC Select, providing customers with the increased bandwidth necessary to improve virtualization consolidation ratios and improve overall data center efficiency.”

Emulex’s single-chip, high-performance OneConnect UCNA is the only server adapter with full hardware protocol offload support for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), iSCSI and FCoE; the fastest 10Gb/s Ethernet performance according to IT Brand Pulse™; and the ability to efficiently consolidate network and storage infrastructures without changing management domains. As part of the Emulex vEngine™ technology, hardware offload and acceleration reduces server overhead and increases the number of virtual machines that can run on virtualized servers.

“FCoE provides an evolutionary approach to consolidated storage networking that will help customers address the challenges of today’s enterprise data centers,” said Matt Mainstruck, Manager of EMC Select. “Emulex’s single-chip iSCSI Adapters and FCoE CNAs are now EMC E-Lab™ tested; guaranteeing tight interoperability in SAN environments using EMC storage systems, so that customers can work toward achieving network consolidation in the data center, while protecting existing technology investments.”

“10Gb/s Ethernet adoption is a foregone conclusion and iSCSI adoption is on the rise,” said Bob Laliberte, ESG. “In a recent survey of nearly 1500 end users in the United States, ESG found that 52% either already use or plan to use iSCSI in their data centers. The combination of 10Gb/s Ethernet and iSCSI provide a new class of cost-effective storage for the enterprise data center.”

Next week at SNW in Orlando, Florida, Emulex will be holding a live demonstration in its Booth, #206 of its OneConnect 10Gb/s iSCSI adapters connected to an EMC CLARiiON array, running OneCommand™ Manager, boot-from-SAN and Microsoft iSCSI applets.

Emulex is a longstanding participant in the EMC Select program. In addition, Emulex LightPulse® 4Gb/s and 8Gb/s Fibre Channel (Host Bus Adapters) HBAs are also qualified for use with EMC CLARiiON, EMC Celerra and EMC Symmetrix storage systems.

Emulex OneConnect UCNAs and LightPulse HBAs utilize Emulex’s OneCommand Manager for secure, virtualized, automated and centralized enterprise management for deployment, dynamic provisioning, asset management, virtual I/O services, connectivity management, security, and quality of service for virtualized and converged networking environments.
