Emulex Showcases End-to-End Data Center Virtualization at Storage Networking World Spring 2007

WHAT:

Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) will be demonstrating the power of a virtualized data center at Storage Networking World (SNW) Spring in San Diego, California. The company is showcasing an end-to-end virtualized environment where virtual servers are connected via the SAN to virtual storage solutions to form a highly flexible next-generation data center. Virtualized data centers promise to improve provisioning efficiency, operational efficiency and service quality. The demonstration includes the recently announced Emulex Model 765-S Intelligent Services Platform for storage virtualization and Emulex LightPulse® 4Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs with Virtual HBA technology based on industry-standard N_Port ID Virtulization (NPIV), connected to leading fabric switches from Brocade and Cisco, showing connectivity to virtual machine environments for both VMware ESX and Microsoft Virtual Server platforms. The demonstration also features Emulex's award-winning VMPilot application, which simplifies the creation and migration of Microsoft Virtual Server-based virtual machines attaching to storage area networks (SANs). The live demonstration highlights the scalability of Emulex HBAs in virtual server environments showing concurrent operation of 12 virtual machines all running a full I/O load. This end-to-end data center virtualization demonstration is being showcased in the Emulex Booth, #P10. The new Emulex Model 765-S Intelligent Services Platform will also be on display in the LSI Partner Pavilion, #PPV3.

On Monday, April 16 at 1:55 p.m. as part of the SNW Virtualization track, Emulex's CTO, Stuart Berman is presenting a session that explores the impacts of server virtualization deployment within a SAN environment from the perspective of the data center user. Emulex's Office of Technology System Architect, Larry Hofer, is also presenting on Monday, April 16 at 11:10 a.m. as part of the SNIA tutorial tracks on how to implement the new Fibre Channel Security Protocol (FC-SP) standard, which can improve fabric security, reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) and improve availability, resulting in simplified management and mitigated threats, both accidental and malicious.

Additionally, in the AMD booth #C40, Emulex LightPulse® 4Gb/s FC HBAs are featured with AMD64-based HP server in a high-performance demonstration of a new hybrid data storage and enterprise computing platform, called Iris, a solution from Third I/O. The Iris demonstration will showcase an extraordinary single storage bandwidth of 5Gb/s and intensive computing dynamics on a single storage platform, while simultaneously running applications on a number of virtual operating system platforms. This extraordinary performance is also detailed in the recently released 'Iris Storage Platform Performance Brief.'

Other Emulex solutions are on display at the SNIA Hands-On Lab area where SNW attendees will have the opportunity to take an actual EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit for a test drive and experience HP Zero to SAN installation to operation in minutes. The EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit combines world-class technologies from HP, Emulex and Brocade to form a Simple SAN solution for Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The Simple SAN solution includes Emulex's EZPilot management software and its LightPulse LPe1150 4Gb/s HBAs. Emulex EZPilot enables simplified SAN installation and deployment by navigating through wizards across HBAs, switches and storage arrays that will have your SAN up and running in just minutes.
