Availability
Contact your HP or Emulex representative for additional details and the latest additions to the support list.
Non-stop addition of new storage arrays and LUNs
When new targets or additional LUNs are ready to be added to the configuration, a simple script enables the administrator to integrate them without stopping the system or interrupting applications. Once integrated, MultiPulse will automatically configure these targets and arrays for multipathing across all available paths.
Preferred Path (Static) Load Balancing
MultiPulse is designed to automatically take advantage of all available paths without extensive configuration. When multiple paths to a given device are detected, MultiPulse will distribute the primary paths across all available HBA ports and active controller ports to ensure a balanced workload and high I/O throughput. If new paths become available during operation, they are automatically detected and MultiPulse rebalances the workload across all available paths.
Monitoring and Configuration Tools
MultiPulse management is provided by the Emulex award-winning HBAnyware® application, featuring:
- Full graphical interface, as well as scriptable command-line interface
- Total local and remote (IP-based) control of Emulex HBAs: extensive diagnostics, beaconing of failed HBAs, dynamic firmware updates, parameter updates
- Extensive monitoring of HBA condition, traffic, and attachments
Linux distribution support
Other failover solutions require removing the distribution-provided driver, for example on Red Hat or Novell, and replacing it with a completely different driver, which Red Hat, Novell or Oracle will not support. MultiPulse will not compromise the support of existing drivers and operating systems and is an Open Source add-on module for the same driver that is distributed and supported by Red Hat and Novell. MultiPulse is also supported by Oracle for its database and application users.
The MultiPulse add-on module is fully tested and supported by HP based on a close engineering and support-level relationship with Emulex. Moreover, MultiPulse can be utilized across the entire supported installed base of HP-qualified Emulex HBAs, protecting customer investment and ensuring simplified end user deployment.
User interface and third-party API
MultiPulse is designed to fully complement Emulex OEM and partner solutions. Emulex configuration utilities are complemented with application and kernel mode APIs enabling licensed third parties to retrieve path status information, and to configure and manage MultiPulse for maximum synergy with their products. These utilities and APIs allow dynamic path additions, deletions and reconfiguration for on-the-fly responsiveness.
HP and Emulex Relationship
The Emulex partnership with HP is accelerating and expanding the adoption of networked storage and extending the value of storage infrastructures. Additionally, the value, simplicity, agility and robust features of Emulex MultiPulse provide the flexibility and broad interoperability needed for complex, highly scalable, heterogeneous SANs.
