Emulex I/O Processor Selected by Fujitsu Limited for SAS/SATA and Fibre Channel Connectivity within the ETERNUS2000 Storage System
Single-Chip RAID Solution Delivers Integrated Design for Lowering
Overall Power and Cost
COSTA MESA, Calif., October 24, 2007 - Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that the Emulex IOP 502M has been selected by Fujitsu Limited for integration into the ETERNUS2000 Storage System to provide a single-chip solution for simultaneous front-end Fibre Channel SAN connectivity and back-end SAS/SATA disk connectivity.
The Emulex IOP 502M is a single chip Fibre Channel and SAS I/O processor delivering the lowest implementation cost on the market and is compatible with Emulex's Service Level Interface (SLI™) for driver compatibility. The Emulex IOP 502M also offers an Intel® XScale® processor to house applications, such as on-board RAID.
"Working with Fujitsu to integrate our multi-protocol I/O processor into the ETERNUS entry-level storage systems provides customers with a high performance embedded connectivity solution that also lowers overall power and cost because of its unique single-chip design," said Bob Whitson, senior vice president and general manager, Embedded Storage Products, Emulex Corp. "Fujitsu's selection of the IOP 502M signifies an expansion of our OEM relationship into Emulex SAS product offerings. We will continue our ongoing integration of Emulex InSpeed™ and FibreSpy™ Fibre Channel embedded storage switches and next generation I/O products."
The Emulex storage processor family, including the IOP 502M, offers multi-application, multi-protocol, software compatible solutions, which are the result of a joint development agreement with Intel. The Emulex family of storage processors leverages underlying technology from the Intel IOP34x storage family and its 90 nanometer technology, along with Emulex's best-of-breed protocol engines and a common software interface for simplified migration.
"The new ETERNUS2000 storage systems provide a cost-effective solution for our entry-level customers seeking one of the industry's most integrated designs - which translates into lowering overall power consumption while maintaining high performance," said Mr. Tetsuro Kudo, general manager, Storage Systems Division, Storage Systems Group, Fujitsu Limited. "As Fujitsu continues to integrate support for new protocols and disk drives, it is critical we select the most reliable and flexible embedded storage products, such as the Emulex IOP 502M, to enhance the functionality of our ETERNUS family of storage systems."
