Managing separate Fibre Channel (FC) and Ethernet networks can be simplified with IBM 10Gb Ethernet (10GbE) Virtual Fabric Adapters (VFAs) and 8/16Gb Fibre Channel (8GFC/16GFC) Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) developed by Emulex.
Better Together on IBM servers, IBM VFAs and HBAs offer the following key advantages:
Management
- OneCommand® Manager supports network and storage connectivity throughout the data center from a single management console
- Common FC drivers reduce time to qualify and manage storage connectivity with FC over Ethernet (FCoE) and FC networks
Flexibility
- Unique support for IBM Virtual Fabric Technology allows you to create four virtual Network Interface Card (vNICs) from one physical port with dynamic, bidirectional bandwidth allocations
- Support for every form factor with LAN on motherboard (LOM), embedded, integrated, mezzanine and PCIe adapters
Performance
- Fastest 16GFC HBA available with over 1.2 million input/output operations per seconds (IOPS) on a single port
- vNIC technology fully optimizes 10GbE bandwidth
- Hardware iSCSI minimizes use of CPU resources and enables I/O for 50% more virtual machines (VMs)
Scalability
- Broad family of adapters for IBM BladeCenter, System x and Flex System servers allows data centers to standardize with common drivers, teaming and boot code
- 8GFC/16GFC HBAs and 10GbE VFAs offer Better Together operations for cross-platform, cross-protocol environments
