Emulex Demonstrates First 8Gb/s Encryption HBA at RSA Conference Europe 2009
Host-based Encryption Security Architecture Protects Data throughout the Enterprise
COSTA MESA, Calif., October 12, 2009 - Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that it will be demonstrating its ground-breaking, enterprise class Emulex Secure Host Bus Adapter (HBA) technology at the RSA Conference Europe 2009 next week, October 20-22 in London at the Hilton London Metropole in its booth B6. Emulex Secure HBA technology is a host-based encryption security solution that protects the whole network by securing data both in-flight on the network and at-rest on disk.
"Emulex's Secure HBA technology will change the way companies secure their data," said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development, Emulex. "Emulex Secure HBA technology provides maximum enterprise-wide data center protection, without impacting server performance at a cost point well below other data encryption approaches."
Implementing a host-based encryption security solution improves the data center's security stance and minimizes the window of data vulnerability, because data is protected where it's created, in the host, shielding companies from expensive, embarrassing data loss or theft. With Emulex Secure HBAs, companies benefit from cost-effective, enterprise class security, without upgrading their storage systems, buying expensive appliances that don't scale and add unneeded complexity. Emulex Secure HBAs enable end-users to move away from CPU (Central Processing Unit) intensive host-based encryption software that may either hobble their servers or inhibit the deployment of virtualized servers.
"Preventing data breaches and complying with information security mandates are growing concerns for organizations of any size, location or industry throughout the world," said Bruce Kornfeld, vice president of marketing, Compellent. "Compellent is constantly seeking ways to deliver new capabilities, such as next-generation data encryption, seamlessly and efficiently in keeping with our persistent architecture strategy. Emulex's Secure HBA technology is exactly the type of cost-effective solution our customers look for to protect and secure their data across the enterprise."
This is the first host-based encryption security solution that offloads encryption processing onto the HBA virtually eliminating CPU overhead. Emulex Secure HBA technology is standards-based, leveraging the new Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) standard, and interoperable with leading key management software and existing encryption solutions. Emulex Secure HBA technology features AES 256-bit encryption, which is deemed unbreakable, and does not require data loss to be reported. In addition, Emulex Secure HBAs simplify mandatory auditing and reporting by placing the required security components (effective access controls, logging, management processes and reporting) at the right place - the host.
Emulex Secure HBA technology leverages field-proven, virtualization-tuned, high-performance Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) connectivity, allowing customers to extend their existing investments in infrastructure, management, training and processes.
