Emulex 8Gb/s HBAs Chosen by Sun Microsystems for SAN Connectivity

Emulex HBAs Available Across Sun Fire™ Enterprise Server Families and Sun StorageTek™ Storage Solutions

COSTA MESA, Calif., September 15, 2008 - Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that Emulex LightPulse® 8Gb/s Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) will be branded, sold and supported for SAN connectivity by Sun Microsystems. Available now, the Sun-branded 8Gb/s HBAs provide enhanced virtualization features, along with the increased bandwidth necessary to support the growing number of virtualized and blade servers in the data center.

Emulex 8Gb/s HBAs provide Sun customers with the full spectrum of platform support across the Solaris™, VMware, Windows and Linux Operating System (OS) environments. Emulex LightPulse HBAs leverage HBAnyware®, a unified management platform, which provides a centralized console to manage Emulex HBAs on local and remote hosts and a powerful suite of diagnostics tools and customizable reporting capabilities, to help data center administrators optimize SAN performance and availability.

"Providing 8Gb/s HBA support for Sun server and storage solutions enables our mutual customers to more efficiently support their growing data centers and virtualized server environments," said Scott McIntyre, vice president of product marketing, Emulex Corporation. "Further, Emulex 8Gb/s are backward compatible with 2Gb/s and 4Gb/s HBAs, so customers can leverage their existing drivers and management tools to accelerate their infrastructure deployments and more easily and rapidly evolve to next-generation data center technology."

Emulex's 8Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs also include Virtual HBA technology, with support for industry-standard N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV), which gives users the ability to "virtualize" SAN connections so each virtual machine running on a server can independently access its own protected storage. Emulex Virtual HBA technology also allows customers to leverage SAN management tools and best practices, such as fabric zoning and LUN mapping/masking.

"Sun works with industry leading partners to ensure customers have the increased bandwidth and efficiency necessary to support their virtual and blade server environments," said Gautam Chanda, Group Manager, Networking Storage Business, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Emulex offers the expertise and proven HBA technology that is critical to our customers' successful infrastructure deployments."

Emulex is a preferred supplier of Fibre Channel HBAs for Sun servers. Models available include the single-channel (Sun P/N: SG-XPCIE1FC-EM8-Z) and the dual-channel (Sun P/N: SG-XPCIE2FC-EM8-Z) 8Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs.
