VMware vSphere ESX 4 is a key solution for IT organizations looking to use server virtualization as a means of controlling server sprawl and reducing operating and capital expenses. At Emulex Labs, we are often called in to provide technical training, and the requests for vSphere training have been tremendous.

Saving Time with Scripting

Posted August 14th, 2009 by Emulex Labs Team

IT shops never have enough time and always need more information. Harried IT administrators often turn to scripting as an efficient way to generate reports more quickly and consistently. The Emulex Labs team took a few minutes to put together some sample scripts based on Microsoft PowerShell and Emulex HBAnyware®.

Microsoft PowerShell is a command line shell and scripting language initially released as a download add-on for Windows Server 2003 and is now shipped alongside Windows Server 2008. PowerShell commands can be used to perform a variety of administrative functions.

HBAnyware® is the Emulex management utility that provides local and remote management of Emulex adapters, providing both a graphical user interface (GUI) and command line interface (CLI). HBAnyware® 4.0 features extensive reporting capabilities that, when used in combination with PowerShell, can help you generate reports on your storage area network (SAN) infrastructure.

Click on the link below and you will find two examples demonstrating how HBAnyware® commands can be executed in a PowerShell script to provide expanded information on all Emulex adapters discovered in a SAN.
